Bellingham Metro News (BMN) is the largest independent news outlet in Whatcom County, dedicated to providing timely, accurate, and community-focused reporting. Founded in 2019 by Fernando Gonzalez, BMN operates with a commitment to keeping residents informed about the issues that matter most to them.
Our History
BMN began as a grassroots news platform and has grown into a trusted source for breaking news, local developments, and in-depth reporting across Whatcom County and beyond. While our presence is strongest on digital platforms like Facebook, where we’ve built a following of over 44,000, BMN has recently relaunched its formal website to better serve the community with expanded features and creative freedom.
What We Cover
From breaking news and crime coverage to local business highlights, restaurant openings, and regional events, BMN captures the pulse of Whatcom County. With an emphasis on accuracy and transparency, we aim to deliver stories that reflect the heart of the region.
How We Are Funded
Bellingham Metro News is proudly independent and locally operated. Unlike many media outlets, we do not rely on external investors or corporate backing. Instead, BMN is funded entirely by its founder, Fernando Gonzalez, through personal resources, including his work in retail and ad revenue generated from BMN’s platforms.
This self-sustaining model ensures that our reporting remains free from outside influence, allowing us to focus solely on serving the community with unbiased and authentic journalism.
Our Platforms
We publish daily updates on our website and social media channels, including Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), Threads, BlueSky, Instagram, TikTok NewsBreak, and YouTube. Our newly launched website features a robust range of resources, including author profiles, mission statements, staff bios, and archives of our work.
Commitment to Community
Bellingham Metro News is owned and operated by Northwest Washington residents who are deeply invested in the community. Our team works tirelessly to provide independent, reliable news coverage, holding ourselves to the highest standards of journalistic integrity.
