We have received an official update from law enforcement regarding the incident reported yesterday in the City of Lynden involving an electric motorcycle.

According to Lynden Police, at approximately 6:15 p.m. Monday evening, officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on an electric motorcycle traveling on Front Street after dark without lights illuminated. Police say the rider did not pull over and instead continued riding, leading officers on a brief pursuit through business parking lots, city streets, and private property.

Authorities report the pursuit came to an end when the motorcycle became stuck in a grove of small trees behind a residence in the 400 block of Woodcreek Drive. Officers then took the rider into custody without further incident.

Police identified the rider as a 14-year-old Lynden male. Due to the individual’s age, Bellingham Metro News is withholding the juvenile’s name. The teen was later released to a parent. LPD states that charges of Felony Eluding and Reckless Driving will be referred to the juvenile prosecutor’s office for review.

No additional injuries have been reported in connection with the incident.

As with all cases, charges are allegations, and any determination of guilt will be made through the court process. All suspects are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

We will continue to follow this case and provide updates as more information becomes available.
