LYNDEN, WA — The Lynden High School girls flag football team has made history, capturing the first-ever Washington Interscholastic Activities Association state championship in the sport and closing out the season without a single loss.
The title game was played Saturday afternoon in Federal Way, where Lynden defeated Squalicum High School 21 to 7 to secure the championship. The win not only marked a milestone for Lynden but also for the sport itself, as this season represented the first year girls flag football was sanctioned at the state level in Washington.
Lynden entered the championship matchup riding an undefeated record and carried that momentum through the final whistle. Players, coaches, and supporters gathered on the field after the game to celebrate the program’s historic achievement, posing with the state trophy and championship signage at the stadium.
The victory over Squalicum highlighted a strong showing from Whatcom County programs in the inaugural season. For Lynden, the championship caps off a perfect run and sets the standard for future teams as the sport continues to grow across the state.
Community members described the atmosphere as electric, with families and fans traveling to Federal Way to support the players in what will now be remembered as a landmark moment for the school’s athletics program.
