LYNDEN, WA – It appears that Jack in the Box in Lynden has shut its doors for good. The location at 8083 Guide Meridian is now listed as “Permanently Closed” on the restaurants Google Maps listing, and the company’s website states, “SORRY, THIS LOCATION NO LONGER EXISTS.”

Bellingham Metro News even attempted to triple verify by searching for the Lynden restaurant on the pin-map on the location-finder tool–But Lynden has been completely removed.

As of now, no official reason has been given for the apparent closure, and there is no word yet on what might replace the fast-food chain at that location. Bellingham Metro News will be reaching out to both Jack in the Box and the city of Lynden for further details and possible future plans for the site.

The closure marks another shift in Lynden’s fast-food landscape, and local residents have already begun speculating about what might come next. Bellingham Metro News polled its readers, and researched other public forums on what restaurant they would like to see take over the location. Responses varied, with some suggesting Jersey Mike’s, Quiznos, Chick-fil-A, Panda Express, In-N-Out, or Wendy’s. One user said, “Where am I going to get my 2 tacos for $0.99?!”

Lynden’s population has experienced significant growth in recent years, consistently maintaining its position as the second-largest city in both the Bellingham Metropolitan Area and Whatcom County. In 2020, Lynden’s population stood at 15,756, rising to 16,551 by 2023. Ferndale, the third-largest city in the county, had a population of 15,992 in 2023.

Most of Lynden’s residential expansion has been concentrated between Vinup and Northwood in the eastern part of the city. However, larger developments have also emerged on the west and central sides, including a new apartment building in downtown that now houses The Newsroom Pub. Additionally, the Salmonberry Estates have recently been constructed, sharing a parking lot with Tractor Supply.

That same parking lot is also home to a multi-use development currently under construction. The project, which stands over four stories tall, has drawn local attention for its height—an uncommon sight in Lynden. However, taller buildings have become increasingly common, following the addition of the Cobblestone Hotel along Guide Meridian and a new four-story retirement center on Aaron Drive near Bender Plaza.

Stay tuned for updates as more information becomes available.
