BELLINGHAM, WASHINGTON — A man sustained injuries early Thursday morning after being struck by a train near the 100 block of E. Pine Street.
The incident occurred around 1:38 a.m. on December 5, 2024, when a train conductor called 911 to report the collision. The train, moving at 25 mph due to thick fog, struck the individual despite the conductor sounding the horn to warn him of the train’s presence.
According to reports, the victim, an adult male, was struck by the handrail or ladder of the engine, causing him to be flung into a ditch on the east side of the tracks.
Officers arriving on the scene found the man conscious and alert. They administered aid until Bellingham Fire Department personnel arrived to transport him to PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.
The victim’s condition and the circumstances leading to the incident are still under investigation.
