BELLINGHAM, WA – In a heartbreaking and raw open letter, the owners of Paws For a Beer, a beloved family-owned business in Fairhaven Village, have shared their anguish following two devastating burglaries.

The most recent break-in occurred early Sunday morning when the burglar shattered a window with a crowbar, wreaking havoc on the store. Shelves were broken, merchandise destroyed, and the family spent half the day cleaning up the mess instead of being with their children. The theft followed another burglary on Thanksgiving morning, during which the thief took all the cash on hand.

“We are already struggling financially,” the owners wrote. “This devastated us. This broke our hearts yet again.”

Fairhaven, known for its charming, close-knit community and its small, independent businesses, has recently seen an increase in burglaries. The owners’ letter reflects the shared frustration and fear among local business owners who pour their hearts into their ventures.

“This is beyond hurtful. Fairhaven does not have chain businesses or restaurants. We are all families, or single people putting in hard, honest work to make our dreams come true. Our money is not your money,” the letter reads.

The owners also praised Fairhaven’s community and law enforcement, emphasizing their gratitude for the neighborhood’s usual sense of safety.

A Call for Support
The letter ends with a plea to the community for support, urging neighbors to help repair the damage and keep the business afloat. Gift cards are available for purchase online, and locals are encouraged to visit the store, which stocks dog food, treats, toys, and a cat corner.

“This isn’t just a business. It’s a space for families, pets, and dreams,” they wrote. “If you can, come by and give us a hug. We’d love to see you.”

The Fairhaven community has already begun rallying around Paws For a Beer. Local residents have shared words of encouragement and pledged to support the business during this difficult time.

A Message to the Burglar
Addressing the burglar directly, the owners’ message is both poignant and defiant:

“Please move on and figure out what else to do with your life. We can’t take another break-in. Kindly, f-ck off.”

As Fairhaven faces challenges, its resilient community continues to stand together, proving that compassion and support can outshine even the darkest moments.
