BELLINGHAM, WASHINGTON  Seattle-based Moto Pizza is planning expanding to Bellingham, bringing its popular Detroit-style ‘odd’ pizza to a new audience. The company has submitted plans to remodel the existing Taco Time NW location at 4373 Meridian Street, next to Wendy’s. The application, filed on November 25, 2024, is currently under review by city officials.

Moto Pizza, a small but growing chain, has gained a loyal following for its unique take on Detroit-style pizza. The business operates locations in West Seattle, Belltown, and Edmonds, and also serves its pizzas at T-Mobile Park, the home of the Seattle Mariners in SoDo. The Bellingham project will involve a renovation of the current fast-food space to accommodate Moto Pizza’s needs. Permits for plumbing and mechanical upgrades are included in the plans, focusing on adding new fixtures and modifying the building’s heating and ventilation systems. LD Sanders Construction, LLC will oversee the work, with design support from BCRA Design.

The future of Taco Time NW at this site remains unclear. The application does not specify whether Taco Time will close or if the two businesses will operate together, similar to how KFC & A&W operate as one location on Sunset Drive in central Bellingham. For now, the focus is on Moto Pizza’s expansion and the transformation of the space.

This move comes as the Cordata neighborhood experiences a revival. Once home to major retailers like Costco, Bed Bath & Beyond, and Billy McHale’s, the area has welcomed several new businesses in recent years, including Texas Roadhouse, Trader Joe’s, and Pizza Hut. Moto Pizza’s arrival is expected to further enhance dining options in the area.

Moto Pizza first hinted at its interest in Bellingham in December 2023, a story originally reported by Bellingham Metro News. Known for its bold flavors and thick, crispy-edged pizzas, the company has built a strong reputation in the Puget Sound region. The addition of a Bellingham location reflects the chain’s steady growth and its appeal to pizza lovers across Washington.

The application is still under review, and there is no confirmed timeline for construction or opening. The permits are valid through November 25, 2025, providing flexibility for the project’s development. Updates on the project’s progress and official announcements will follow as more details become available.

Bellingham Metro News will keep the community informed on Moto Pizza’s plans and other local stories. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting addition to Bellingham’s food scene.
