U.S. – WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Andy Ogles (R-TN) has introduced a House Joint Resolution to amend the U.S. Constitution, potentially allowing a president to serve up to three terms. The proposed amendment seeks to revise the limitations imposed by the 22nd Amendment, which currently restricts presidents to two terms.
The amendment’s language reads:
“No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than three times, nor be elected to any additional term after being elected to two consecutive terms, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice.”
Congressman Ogles cited former President Donald Trump’s leadership as the driving force behind the proposed amendment, stating that Trump has demonstrated the ability to restore the nation’s economic strength and security. Ogles argues that the American people should have the option to re-elect Trump for a third term to continue his efforts in reversing policies from the Biden administration.
“It is imperative that we provide President Trump with every resource necessary to correct the disastrous course set by the Biden administration,” said Ogles. “He has proven his loyalty to the American people and our great nation above all else.”
The resolution highlights actions Trump has taken since returning to office, including declaring a national emergency to secure the southern border, deploying additional resources to curb illegal immigration, and designating Mexican cartels as terrorist organizations. Additionally, Trump has reportedly begun efforts to withdraw the U.S. from the World Health Organization and eliminate federal diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs.
Supporters of the amendment argue that Trump’s leadership is crucial to restoring economic stability and national security, while critics warn of the potential dangers of altering presidential term limits.
As the resolution moves forward in Congress, it is expected to face significant debate and scrutiny. Constitutional amendments require a two-thirds majority in both the House and Senate, followed by ratification from three-fourths of state legislatures.
