DEVELOPING — Reports of explosions and missile activity are emerging from several countries across the Middle East early Saturday, as regional tensions appear to be rapidly escalating.

According to CNN, explosions were heard in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Reuters also reported a loud blast in the UAE capital, citing an eyewitness. Additional reports from international outlets indicate explosions in Manama, Bahrain, as well as in parts of Kuwait and Qatar.

Bahraini authorities stated that a service support facility connected to the U.S. Fifth Fleet came under a missile strike. Social media accounts are circulating video that they claim shows activity near the U.S. naval base in Juffair, Bahrain, though official damage assessments have not yet been fully detailed.

Iranian state media has claimed that U.S. bases in the region are targets, while U.S. officials, speaking to NBC News and other outlets, said Iran is retaliating against multiple American military facilities across the Middle East. CNN aired coverage describing what it called retaliation across the region, with explosions reported in Bahrain, Abu Dhabi and Qatar.

There are also reports that Qatar intercepted an incoming missile, according to Al Jazeera. In Saudi Arabia, separate accounts have reported blasts heard in Riyadh. Independent verification of all incidents is ongoing, and official casualty figures have not yet been released.

Earlier statements from President Donald Trump indicated that the United States had begun what he described as major combat operations in Iran following Israeli-American strikes. Developments since then suggest the situation has broadened beyond a single location, with multiple countries now reporting activity.

Governments in the region have issued public safety alerts urging residents to remain calm and move to safe locations if necessary. One alert attributed to a Ministry of Interior urged citizens to avoid blocking main roads and await further guidance.

At this stage, many details remain fluid. Some reports are based on eyewitness accounts and initial government statements, and further confirmation is expected as more official briefings are released.

Bellingham Metro News will continue monitoring verified updates from international wire services and official government sources. As with all rapidly developing situations, early information may change as additional facts become available.

This is a developing story. Updates will follow as more confirmed information is released.
