WHATCOM COUNTY — A motorcyclist was taken into custody Monday evening following an alleged high-speed pursuit that stretched from Ferndale to Blaine, according to information released by the Washington State Patrol.

Troopers say the incident began around 7 p.m. when a trooper reportedly observed a Suzuki GSXR 600 traveling northbound on Interstate 5 near Main Street in Ferndale without a visible license plate. When the trooper attempted to initiate a stop after pulling from the shoulder, the motorcycle allegedly accelerated at a high rate of speed.

Authorities state a pursuit was initiated, with speeds reportedly exceeding 100 miles per hour as the motorcycle continued north on I-5. The pursuit eventually exited onto Peace Portal Way in Blaine. According to the State Patrol, the rider attempted to turn in order to get back onto southbound I-5 but allegedly lost control of the motorcycle at a low speed.

Troopers say a short foot pursuit followed before the rider surrendered. The individual was arrested and booked on allegations of attempting to elude law enforcement, driving with a suspended license, and operating a motorcycle without the required endorsement. The motorcycle was impounded.

No serious injuries were publicly reported as of Monday night.

As with all criminal cases, the charges referenced are allegations, and the suspect is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

The Washington State Patrol acknowledged assistance from the Blaine Police Department in bringing the incident to a close.
