BELLINGHAM — Bellingham Metro News has received an official update from Lieutenant Claudia Murphy with the Bellingham Police Department regarding Tuesday night’s emergency response at the Sunset Taco Bell in the 1200 block of East Sunset Drive.

As we first reported Tuesday evening, multiple Bellingham Police units and at least two ambulances responded to the restaurant just before 9:00 p.m., prompting concern and questions from community members who witnessed the large presence.

According to information provided to Bellingham Metro News by Lieutenant Murphy, officers were dispatched at approximately 9:00 p.m. on February 24, 2026, for a reported overdose inside a business restroom. When officers arrived, they located an unresponsive 16-year-old male who had already been administered Narcan by a civilian prior to police arrival.

The responding officer, believing the incident involved a possible opioid overdose, administered an additional dose of Narcan. Bellingham Fire personnel then arrived and continued lifesaving efforts. Police say the teen regained consciousness before being transported to PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center for further treatment and evaluation.

During the response, officers located drug paraphernalia and a small amount of a substance suspected to be fentanyl. The items were collected and impounded. No arrest was made in connection with the incident.

Due to the individual’s age, no identifying information is being released.

This update provides clarity following Tuesday night’s significant emergency response at the Sunset Taco Bell. Bellingham Metro News will continue to monitor the situation and share any additional confirmed details if they become available.
