SEATTLE METRO AREA — Seattle police have released video footage connected to an officer-involved incident that occurred February 12, 2026, with the disclosure authorized by the Independent Force Investigation Team of King County.

According to information published by the Seattle Police Department, the investigation is being led by the Independent Force Investigation Team of King County, commonly referred to as IFIT KC. Under Washington state law, including RCW 10.114.011 and WAC 139-12, any use of force by law enforcement must be reviewed by an independent investigative body. Seattle police exited the federal consent decree in September 2025 and now operate under state standards governing such incidents.

Authorities say the video released provides a brief overview of what led up to the shooting.

The footage includes audio from a 911 call placed by a woman who told dispatchers she believed a man she knew was following her and that she was frightened for her safety. During the call, she said she had run into a public location identified as QFC because she felt it was the safest place to seek help. She reported that the individual she believed was following her typically carried a pistol in his waistband and that she was unsure whether he still had the weapon at that moment.

Dispatchers informed her that officers were responding and advised her to wait inside until police arrived.

The video then transitions to body-worn camera footage from responding officers. In the recording, officers can be heard identifying a suspect and giving commands as they approach. At one point, officers shout instructions and warn one another as the situation rapidly unfolds. Gunfire is heard moments later.

Police radio traffic captured in the video indicates an officer reported shots fired. Officers are then heard directing others not to reach toward the individual and calling out instructions in the immediate aftermath.

The video ends with officers kicking away a firearm from the suspects reach after the alleged threat was neutralized.

The department states that Seattle Police and IFIT KC are continuing to coordinate the release of information that will not interfere with the independent criminal investigation. Officials say additional details will be shared as they are cleared for public release under state law.

No further information about the identity of the individual involved or the condition of anyone injured has been provided in the initial release. The investigation remains ongoing.

Note: All suspects are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
