Fairway Center in Lynden Washington
WHATCOM — A longtime local boutique that many shoppers across Whatcom County may remember from both Lynden and Birch Bay is preparing to close its current storefront after 13 years in business.
Betty Be Good Boutique announced this week that its Birch Bay location will officially close at the end of June. The announcement was shared through the business’s social media pages, where owner Suzanne also posted a video message speaking directly to customers about the transition and reflecting on the store’s journey over the past decade.
The business previously operated in Lynden at the Fairway Center before later moving operations closer to the Birch Bay and Blaine area, making the announcement one that longtime customers from across the county are reacting to online.
In her message, Suzanne described the boutique as something built around affordable fashion while also supporting survivors of human trafficking. She said the closure of the Birch Bay storefront is not the end of the business itself, but rather a shift into a different chapter.
According to the announcement and accompanying video, Betty Be Good Boutique plans to continue operations through a permanent space inside West Coast Gardens in South Surrey, British Columbia. Suzanne described the move as embracing “a new beginning” while continuing the same mission and community-focused identity the boutique has carried for years.
The post also noted that gift cards for the Birch Bay location should be redeemed by June 14 on merchandise currently sold at the store, as they will not transfer over to the Surrey location because of what was described as a separate business structure.
The boutique is also offering discounts on its remaining spring and summer inventory as it prepares for the transition, with some store fixtures expected to be sold as well.
Over the years, the store became known to many local shoppers for women’s fashion, accessories, and seasonal collections while building a loyal customer base throughout the Lynden, Blaine, and Birch Bay communities.
Many customers responding online shared memories of shopping at the boutique over the years, with several calling it a longtime community favorite and thanking Suzanne for her years of involvement in the community.
