SNOHOMISH COUNTY — Two people were hospitalized Thursday evening following a three vehicle collision near the northbound Interstate 5 on-ramp at 236th Street Northeast near Silvana, according to the Washington State Patrol.
The crash was reported at approximately 7:03 p.m. on May 15. A Washington State Patrol press memo sent to Bellingham Metro News states that a 2008 Honda Civic, a 2000 Mercury Mountaineer, and a commercial car hauler truck were involved in the collision near milepost 210.
Investigators say the Honda Civic and Mercury Mountaineer were both traveling on the northbound on-ramp from 236th Street Northeast while the commercial truck was traveling northbound on Interstate 5 in the right lane. According to the preliminary investigation, the Honda struck the Mercury, causing the Mercury to then collide with the commercial truck.
The Honda reportedly came to rest on the right shoulder of the on-ramp. The Mercury overturned and came to rest on its top along the shoulder of the ramp, while the commercial truck stopped on the right shoulder of northbound I-5.
Washington State Patrol identified the injured occupants as a 57-year-old woman from East Wenatchee and a 47-year-old man from Fort Collins, Colorado. Both were transported to Skagit Valley Hospital for treatment. Troopers noted that the driver of the Mercury was wearing a seatbelt, while the passenger was not restrained at the time of the crash.
The other drivers, identified as a 40-year-old man from La Conner and a 59-year-old man from Lynden, Washington, were not injured, according to the report.
Troopers stated that drugs or alcohol are not believed to have been factors in the collision. The cause of the crash remains under investigation and no charges had been announced as of Friday morning.
The Washington State Patrol report also noted that the Mercury Mountaineer was totaled in the crash, while the Honda Civic and commercial truck sustained reportable damage.
All individuals involved are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
