T-Mobile says its retail store near Fred Meyer and Five Guys on West Bakerview Road will remain open after the Bellingham location was mistakenly identified as one expected to close in a state layoff notice.
My Bellingham Now reported Thursday evening that a T-Mobile spokesperson said the Bakerview and I-5 store had been marked for closure in error in the company’s original notice to the Washington Employment Security Department.
The clarification means the retail store at 1315 W. Bakerview Road, Suite 106, and T-Mobile’s call center at 340 W. Bakerview Road are both expected to remain open while layoffs move forward. Bellingham Metro News has not independently received the company’s statement.
Original State Notice Identified Store for Closure
As of Saturday, the original Aug. 21 document remained accessible through the state’s online WARN database. That document places an asterisk beside the Bakerview and I-5 store and states that locations marked with an asterisk are expected to close.
Although My Bellingham Now’s updated report refers to a revision, BMN did not locate a separately posted amended document during its review of the public database Saturday.
Bellingham Metro News’ original report was based on the official notice submitted by T-Mobile and published by the state. The company’s subsequent clarification that the store will remain open was first reported locally by My Bellingham Now.
The layoffs remain scheduled to occur between Sept. 21 and Nov. 18. The filing covers 77 positions across Washington but does not specify how many employees will be affected at either Bellingham location.
Although the Bakerview store is no longer expected to close, both Bellingham locations remain affected by the statewide layoffs.
