BELLINGHAM, WA — A Ferndale man was killed early Tuesday morning following a fiery crash along Interstate 5 near Mountlake Terrace, according to information released by the Washington State Patrol.
According to information emailed from the Washington State Patrol to BMN, The collision was reported at approximately 3:29 a.m. on April 21, 2026, on northbound I-5 near the 236th Street Southwest exit. Investigators say a single vehicle was traveling northbound when it left the main roadway and entered the exit ramp leading toward the nearby transit station. The vehicle then struck a wall.
After the impact, the vehicle caught fire and became fully engulfed. Emergency crews responded to the scene, but the driver was pronounced dead.
Officials confirmed only one vehicle was involved, and no other injuries were reported. The cause of the crash has not yet been determined, and it is not yet known if drugs or alcohol played a role.

The incident temporarily affected traffic in the area as crews worked to clear the scene. The investigation remains ongoing.
